The Nigerian Division of the International Association for Dental Research was inaugurated, officially, on the 26th of June 2002 during the first Annual Scientific Congress held at the Conference Centre, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. It was formally approved as a Section at the 81^st Annual IADR Congress held in Goteburg, Sweden in June 2003. The Division successfully held its Second annual Scientific Congress at the Banquet Hall, University of Benin, Benin-City, Nigeria from September 2 to 5, 2003. The Nigerian Division is the only one in the West African Sub-region and other countries such as Ghana, Gambia, Senegal and Ivory Coast have indicated interest in being part of the Division. The two Scientific Congresses held till date have had members attending not only from Nigeria but also other West African Countries. Membership of the section comprises of frontline dental researchers in the West African sub-region. The Association attained Divisional status at the 82^nd IADR Congress held from March 10-13, 2004 at Honolulu, USA. The Third Annual Congress of the Division will be held from August 31 to September 3, 2004 at the Hill Station hotel in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.
